You can't keep a positive cash status from just provinces. If I could get a second army raiding and sacking it'd help, but with no trade & no gold mines I can't afford the upkeep, even with all the reduced upkeep skills. I can only afford one army so am constantly playing whack-a-mole chasing down enemy armies. I'm at war with Kislev, 5-6 different Empire/Bretonnia factions and the Norse dwarves.
Within 20 turns I had all of the North under control.
Picked up the Norsca & Wood Elves DLC on sale and started a very hard ME campaign as Wulfric.
